Motor Vehicle Warranty is a product designed to minimise the cost to you of replacing or repairing motor vehicle parts in the event that they are faulty or damaged, subject to specific limits.
If a vehicle meets certain qualifying criteria, a vehicle warranty can be purchased for various periods ranging from 12 months to 36 months. In some cases, a warranty may be purchased prior to the expiry of the manufacturers extended warranty so that you maintain continuity in your protection.
Most warranties require that the vehicle is regularly serviced and maintained as required by the manufacturer, and if a part needs replacing or repairing it can generally be done anywhere in Australia. Know the difference between warranties
- Manufacturer’s warranty – comes with the purchase of a new car or a used car that may still be within the manufacturer’s warranty period
- Statutory Warranty – generally 3 months warranty supplied free by the dealer you are purchasing your used car from if it fits the criteria
- Extended Warranty – “add on” warranty sold by a third party other than the dealer or manufacturer, to cover for periods after manufacturer’s/statutory warranty has expired.
